The Single System Slate

Letting post know what's on your tracks

Background

My name is André Boisvert, I'm based in Montréal, and I'm working on my 21st year of production sound, almost exclusively single system.

In the mid-90's, I started using a cardboard slate with stick-on letters and Velcro to identify my tracks for post.  Problem was that stick-on letters become stick-off letters after awhile and cardboard isn't very weather resistant, or production resistant for that matter.  In 2007, I started working on a slate that would withstand both.  This is the result. Made of tough ABS plastic, Velcro,  and weather resistant labels, I think it'll outlast most of my gear.

Marketing

By having your name - or your name and phone number - on your slate, the Single System Slate is also a no-effort marketing tool.  I've met editors who knew my name because of my slate.  Granted, I've never had a job from an editor, but getting your name out so effortlessly can't be a bad thing.
